Massage modalities:
Injury Treatment: All massage therapists at our clinic are skilled at applying massage techniques for injury treatment. Any number of the following modalities may be applied for rehabilitation and pain reduction of chronic or recent injury.
Deep Tissue Massage: Generally slower than Swedish, and not to be confused with sustained, strong "deep pressure" massage, deep tissue massage relieves intense or chronic tension in the muscles and connective tissue or fascia. Deep tissue massage focuses on the tissue underlying the top muscles and is applied to both the superficial and deep layers of muscles and fascia.
Swedish Massage: A classic style that promotes relaxation, overall health and well-being. It enhances circulation and positively affects the muscles, nerves, and all systems of the body. It includes long gliding strokes, kneading, friction, tapping, and gentle movement and stretching.
Orthopedic massage: utilizes assessment of soft tissues, range of motion, and posture, to determine which treatment techniques are best applied for the relief of pain, restoration of movement, optimal performance, and recovery from injury. A session may include muscle resistance, active and passive stretching, myofascial release, tender point and trigger point release, gentle joint mobilization, deep tissue, or gentle calming techniques, depending on the conditions presented.
Myofascial Release (MFR): Applied with light or deep pressure, MFR manipulates the connective tissue or fascia that surrounds all our muscles, bones, and organs. Due to the web-like formation of the fascia throughout the entire body, tension in one part of the body can affect another part and impact posture and functioning. MFR works to release fascial restrictions and is effective for many conditions.
Neuromuscular Techniques (NMT) or Trigger Point Therapy works with the complex relationship between the nervous system and musculoskeletal system and restores a balance between these systems. Specific massage techniques are employed to disrupt and eliminate pain patterns, release endorphins, aid in recovery, and enhance movement and functioning of joints and muscles.
Cupping: It is an ancient Chinese form of alternative medicine in which a local suction is created on the skin. Cupping enhances circulation and energy flow, and has a wide range of benefits for the healing of injury and chronic conditions. Cupping relieves pain and inflammation, reduces muscle spasms and fascial restrictions, increases range of movement in joints, softens scar tissue, and loosens post-surgery adhesions.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage: Gentle and relaxing, MLD addresses the lymphatic system, which is key to the immune system, and moves metabolic wastes out of the body. MLD employs very light techniques to enhance lymph flow, which aids in recovery from injury. Please note that at this time, we employ MLD for injury treatment and general well-being only, and do not use MLD for conditions such as lymphedema or cancer. Heart conditions and infections are contraindicated for MLD.
Prenatal Massage: A gentle, therapeutic way to ease the physical strain of pregnancy. It helps relieve muscle soreness, reduce swelling, soothe the nervous system, and boost energy levels.
Postpartum Massage supports your body’s recovery after childbirth—helping to release tension, encourage healing, and restore hormonal balance during this important time of transition.
Sports massage: It is especially helpful during athletic training and after athletic events to prepare for peak, prevent injury, reduce muscle tension, relieve fatigue and swelling, and promote overall health. Sports massage employs a variety of techniques, depending on the needs of the client, to address the structures relevant to a particular athletic activity.
Hot Stone Therapy: Heated stones are positioned on the body and employed in the massage to provide deep relaxation and relieve muscular tension.
If you would like Chi Touch to bill your insurance, we will need the following:
Notification that you will be using your Medical Insurance when you make your appointment.
A prescription from your primary care provider that proves medical necessity for treatment. A prescription needs a diagnosis, frequency, and duration.
Payment of your co-pay and any co-insurance payments at the time of the appointment.
Please call the telephone number on the back of your insurance card for questions on your individual policy.
Please keep in mind:
Massage therapy sessions billed to insurance are an hour long and will involve a few minutes to assess the state of an injury or condition and discuss treatment and self-care.
Clients arriving for their first visit should sign in at the front desk 15 minutes before their appointment starts in case they haven't filled out the health intake sent to their email address.
Personal Injury protection?
If you own a car and have car insurance, you likely have Personal Injury Protection (PIP), unless you've specifically waived this coverage in your policy. If you're involved in an accident and have PIP, your insurance will cover your medical expenses, regardless of who was at fault. To use PIP, you'll need a prescription from your doctor, along with a claim number and the contact information for your insurance adjuster.
Third-Party Coverage
"Third-party coverage" applies when someone involved in an accident doesn't have their own PIP coverage but wants to be treated using the at-fault party's insurance. Please note, we do not bill for third-party coverage directly. If this applies to you, contact your car insurance company to inquire whether they will cover your treatment and handle the coordination with the other insurance company. If they agree to this, we can bill your auto insurance directly for your visits. If they do not, you will need to pay at the time of service and can seek reimbursement from your insurance company.
